Beloved Farm Pig Stolen in Alabama: Community Searches for Claude
In a troubling incident that has shaken a small rural community in Alabama, Claude, a beloved farm pig known for his gentle nature and familiarity with visitors, was reported stolen this weekend from a family-owned farm. The disappearance has sparked concern among neighbors and renewed conversations about farm security and animal welfare.
A Familiar Presence Gone
Claude, a three-year-old heritage pig, had been raised on the farm since he was a piglet. According to the farmer, Claude was more than livestock — he was part of daily life, often following people around the property and responding to his name.
“He was part of the family,” the farmer said. “Claude wasn’t aggressive or skittish. He trusted people.”
The Disappearance
Authorities believe the theft occurred overnight. Evidence suggests someone entered the property after dark, opened a secured pen, and removed Claude without authorization. There were no signs of forced entry into nearby buildings, leading investigators to believe the person may have known the layout of the farm.
Neighbors reported hearing a vehicle late Saturday night but did not initially think anything was amiss. By morning, Claude was gone.
Investigation and Community Response
Local law enforcement has opened an investigation and is urging anyone with information to come forward. Officials say livestock theft is uncommon in the area but are treating the case seriously.
Animal welfare advocates have also raised concerns, noting that domesticated pigs are highly intelligent and social animals. “Removing an animal like this from its home can cause extreme stress,” said Dr. Laura Bennett, an animal welfare specialist.
As the search continues, the farmer says the priority remains bringing Claude home safely. “We just want him back,” he said. “He belongs here.”
The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities ask anyone with information related to the incident to contact local law enforcement.
